Zen and the Art of Writing Fiction

There is a poem by Gary Snyder in which he compares the dharma to an onion.  You peel the onion, and keep peeling, layer after layer, until you discover the nothingness at the center of the onion.

Take that mental image and run it in reverse.

Starting with the nothingness at the center of an onion, surround the nothingness with layer upon layer, until you discover the onion where once there was only nothingness.
