Did you ever have one of those days?

My publisher has requested teaser text for the back cover of Death and White Diamonds. Not an excerpt, but rather a brief synopsis, a teaser that will intrigue potential readers. So I am asking for your feedback. If you picked up my book and read the following on the back cover, would it make you curious about the book? Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

Did you ever have one of those days? You know the kind, when nothing seems to go right?

Richie’s girlfriend suggests a romantic getaway, promising him a week-end he will never forget. But when he discovers her lifeless body on the beach, her blouse ripped, an ugly gash just above her left breast, a delicate thread of blood making its way between her breasts and running down along her abdomen, he can’t quite remember what happened. He’s fairly certain he didn’t kill his girlfriend, but his memory is hazy. One thing, however, is certain. When Lorraine’s body is found, he’s going to be the prime suspect in a murder investigation.

If her body is found.

Richie realizes that he will have to dispose of the body. It will be a gruesome bit of business, but he doesn’t think Lorraine will mind. So he cuts her up with a table saw. He tosses the body parts in a duffel bag and he tosses the duffel bag in the trunk of his car. But disposing of the body parts turns out to be more difficult than he anticipates. His attempts only serve to make him look guilty to a string of unfortunate witnesses. Bodies pile up faster than Richie can dispose of them.

Meanwhile his car is stolen, and with it, the duffel bag filled with Lorraine’s remains.

Did you ever have one of those days? And we haven’t even gotten to the bad part yet.

  1. heh. when i first read it all, i backed away to think about it. ’cause it seemed like a LOT, but then i thought ‘i’m just sensitive’, so i wents away to think on it. and it still felt like a lot. not that you needed to know all of that, but i’m kinda glad others feel a bit like that, too. 🙂

  2. Thanks for the feedback. Although the premise of the story is pretty gruesome, it’s not actually a gruesome narrative. The story is a dark comedy. The problem with the teaser, I think, is that it only captures the gruesome part.
